Hyundai has revealed its latest all-electric vehicle, the 2026 Ioniq 9 SUV. This three-row, seven-passenger SUV is the company’s largest EV to date and is designed specifically for the U.S. market.
Expanding Hyundai’s EV Lineup
The Ioniq 9 joins Hyundai’s growing fleet of electric vehicles, which already includes the smaller Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models. The vehicle is set to arrive in U.S. dealerships by spring 2025, offering a new option for families seeking a spacious and sustainable driving experience.
Key Features and Performance
The Ioniq 9 will feature fast-charging capabilities, with the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes. It boasts an estimated range of 335 miles on a single charge and can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in as little as 4.9 seconds.
While Hyundai has not yet disclosed the official pricing for the Ioniq 9, it is expected to be competitive within the market. For comparison, the Kia EV9, a similar vehicle from Hyundai’s sister brand, starts at around $55,000.
Distinct Design and Market Strategy
The Ioniq 9 showcases a unique exterior design that sets it apart from the Kia EV9 and Hyundai’s other electric models. Its bold look underscores Hyundai’s commitment to creating distinctive options within the growing EV segment.
Despite a slower-than-anticipated adoption of electric vehicles, Hyundai remains steadfast in its goal of offering a comprehensive EV lineup for the U.S. market. The company has previously announced plans to introduce a portfolio of 23 EV models by 2030, aiming to cater to a wide range of customer preferences.
Hyundai’s Strong EV Sales Performance
Through the third quarter of this year, Hyundai, along with its sister brand Kia, sold the second-highest volume of electric vehicles in the U.S., trailing only behind Tesla. While the two brands share the same parent company, they largely operate independently in the U.S. market, offering unique options to consumers.
Production and Global Rollout
The Ioniq 9 is expected to go on sale in Korea and the U.S. during the first half of 2025. A European and global rollout is planned for later in the year, further expanding the vehicle’s reach. Production will take place at Hyundai’s new multibillion-dollar facility in Georgia, emphasizing the company’s investment in local manufacturing and its commitment to the U.S. market.
Hyundai’s Vision for the EV Future
With the unveiling of the Ioniq 9, Hyundai is doubling down on its EV strategy, reinforcing its position as a key player in the electric vehicle industry. The launch of this spacious, high-performance SUV demonstrates the automaker’s dedication to meeting evolving consumer needs while contributing to a more sustainable future.
