The subscription, priced at $9.99 per month for Prime members and $4.99 per month for non-Prime members using EBT cards, facilitates free grocery delivery for orders surpassing $35. This service extends across various platforms under Amazon’s umbrella, including Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and select grocery retailers on Amazon.com like Cardenas Markets and Save Mart. This move underscores Amazon’s ongoing efforts to refine its grocery segment and fortify its Prime membership.
Enhanced Features and Wide Availability
Positioning the subscription as a cost-effective option, Amazon emphasizes that the fee easily compensates after just one monthly delivery. Moreover, subscribers gain access to free one-hour delivery windows (where available), complimentary 30-minute pickup, and priority selection for recurring time slots, ideal for weekly grocery orders. The subscription is accessible in over 3,500 cities and towns across the United States, following successful trials in cities like Columbus, Ohio, Denver, and Sacramento, California, in late 2023.

Tony Hoggett, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Grocery Stores at Amazon, expressed the company’s commitment to crafting a premier grocery shopping experience that prioritizes selection, value, and convenience. He reiterated Amazon’s dedication to accommodating diverse customer needs by saving them both time and money with each grocery purchase. This initiative builds upon existing Prime benefits, which include exclusive deals at Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh, along with discounted Prime memberships for individuals receiving government assistance such as SNAP and Medicaid.
Amazon’s latest move in the grocery landscape comes amidst a series of strategic adjustments, including the removal of Just Walk Out technology from certain Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods locations, and the proliferation of smart cart technology. Additionally, the company has extended its Dash Cart offering to other grocery retailers, further expanding its footprint in the sector.
